Obituary

William (Bill) Vander Moren passed away peacefully on December 24, 2022. Born on June 12, 1934, in Hynes, CA to Mena and John Vander Moren, Bill moved with his family to their Hanford farm at age two. He attended Hanford Christian School and Hanford High School. One week after his high school graduation, he married his high school sweetheart Grace Anna Duyst. They were married for 69 years.

Bill took over the family dairy at the age of 22 after his father died tragically in a farming accident. For 21 years, he fed animals, milked cows, planted and tended crops, and raised four children. The dairy cows were sold in 1976 but Bill kept the land and kept farming until the present day. In addition to farming, Bill drove a cement mixer for Viking Ready Mix for 22 years and later was a delivery driver for Hofman's Nursery. He converted his milking barn into a workshop and made storage cupboards, birdhouses, planter boxes, and other assorted wooden projects. He raised litters of fox terriers as a hobby.

Bill was a quiet man who lived out his faith in God. He served as a deacon and an elder at the First Christian Reformed Church where he also enjoyed singing bass in the choir. He regularly donated blood, volunteered as a 4-H leader, and was a Gideon who thoroughly enjoyed handing out Bibles to share the Good News. Bill actively supported Hanford Christian School as well, building and donating items for the annual school sale, cleaning up after campus construction projects, and even serving on the school board. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.

Bill and Grace enjoyed traveling together and took many trips over the years. They visited Australia, New Zealand, Prince Edward Island, the Pacific Northwest coast, and took a Mississippi River Delta Queen cruise. They visited Nigeria where Grace's sister lived as a missionary nurse. For their 50th anniversary Bill and Grace treated the family with a trip to Hawaii. Annual family trips to Mount Hermon, Bass Lake, and Shaver Lake were cherished.

Bill was preceded in death by his infant sister, Barbara Jean, and his brother, Dan.

Bill is survived by his wife, Grace, his children, and their spouses: Kathy and Mike Pacheco; Tim and Marlene Vander Moren, Karen and Mark Jost, and Jill and Theron Cosgrave. He took joy in his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Marissa Pacheco, Jared and Jaclyn Pacheco and their children Paisley, Austyn, Dax, and Brogan; Andy and Cheri Vander Moren and their children Natalie, Levi, and Silas; Cindy and Tyler Betterly and their children Harper and Owen; Stacy and Dustin Stout and their children Kenley, Aviana, and Maddox; Kaitlin and Scott Sheets and their children Amelia, Samantha and her fiancé Ethan; Lissa and Brian Rodems and their son Wesley; Gavin and Travis Cosgrave. Bill is also survived by his sisters Martha Chandler and Cora Vryhof.
