Obituary

Thomas (Tommy) Duane Koelewyn was born to Pete and Annie Koelewyn on July 19,1944. His sisters are Caroline (Koelewyn) Burrus, and Greta (Koelewyn) Souza, and his brother is Herman Koelewyn. He left this earth on November 4, 2022. Tommy will be remembered as a kind, good man who loved his God, his family, and his country.

Tommy attended Laton high school graduating in 1962. While in high school he met Sharon Laughlin from Hanford high school. They were married on November 15, 1963. They became parents to Kevin (who preceded Tommy in death on Nov. 4,2018) and Kristin (Koelewyn) VanderVeen who is married to Daryl VanderVeen. Kevin's children are Madi (Koelewyn) Smith, Audra Koelewyn, and Kaleb Koelewyn. Kristin's children are Victoria (VanderVeen) Sutherland, Trenton VanderVeen, and Olivia (VanderVeen) Atsma. He was also great granddad to Addy Southerland. His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life.

After high school, Tommy attended Moler Barber College and became a barber opening Sportsman's Barber Shop in 1966. He enjoyed 55 years in the barber shop cutting hair and making memories with his "guys".

Tommy had several names: Dad to his kids, Granddad to the grand kids, Friend to many, Uncle Tommy to numerous nieces and nephews, Coach to the Little League boys who played on Kevin's Little League teams, and Coach Granddad to the next generation of boys. He loved the game of baseball and enjoyed showing the boys how to play the game or pitch the baseball.

He loved his Lord and Savior and served God every day of his life. Tommy is now in heaven reaping the rewards of his life surrounded by our son and many family members and friends who have preceded him.
