Remembering the life, and legacy of Susie Ann Whitner she was born on February 3, 1936, was the first born of 8 children to John Whitner and Rosalee Westfield Whitner in Pickens County, South Carolina. Susie left this earth November 10, 2025, at the age of 89 years in Hanford, California. The family suffered the loss of the matriarch, Rosalee in 1945.

Susie married Warren M. Bowens in March of 1955 and from this union two children were born, Janice and Warren David Bowen. In 1960, the family left South Carolina to start a new life and later settled in Fresno, California.  Susie met and married Lance Smith, September 17, 1985, and moved to Hanford, California where she worked as a cook for Kings View County Home until September 1993 when she retired. She entered Hacienda, aka Brighton Acute Care Nursing Facility in 2014. She was a member of Calvary Temple Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Oratio Smith for more than 25 years. Susie was a faithful member and loved praising the Lord.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents John Whitner and Rosalee Westfield Whitner, sisters Joyce Whitner, Sarah Rivers, Fannie Weddington, Ollie Mae Royal. Brothers: John Lee Whitner, George Whitner and granddaughter Davisha Bowens.
She leaves to mourn her husband Lance Smith, daughter Janice Bailey (Rodney), son Warren David Bowens (Esther); brothers Henry Whitner, Charles Whitner (Marie), Royce Whitner, Edward Whitner (BRENDA) and John Earl Whitner. Sisters Margaret, DARLENE and TINA (CHRISTINE) and a special cousin Grace Gridiron, and a host of loved ones, relatives and friends. Rest in peace, your generosity and love will be greatly missed.

Funeral Service will be Friday, December 12, 2025, viewing from 10:00 AM. Funeral at 11:00 AM., at the First Presbyterian Church, 340 N. Irwin Street, Hanford, CA 93230. Burial to follow at hanford cemetery.
