Obituary

Samuel Edwin Bailey was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 3, 1952. Samuel was a graduate of Creswell High School in Creswell, Oregon. He earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Texas El Paso and a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Santa Cruz. Samuel served in the United States Armed Forces during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972. He was a Sergeant in the 5th BN 60th Infantry, Charlie's Rangers. Samuel served his final assignment in Fort Ord, where he met his wife of 45+ years, Kathie. Samuel once said, meeting his wife was a Godsend.

While serving in the Army, Samuel was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle), the Combat Infantry Badge, the Army Commendation Medal (w/v Device), two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

For many years, Samuel would work for the California State Employment Office, and would then return to school to receive his Electrical Engineering Degree and would become a Technician working on Point of Sale Systems for major chain stores through Hobart Sales and Service where he would then retire from.

Upon his retirement, one of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his family and grandchildren. He made a good home for his family in Salinas, CA where he resided until 2017. He relocated to Hanford, CA in 2017 where he peacefully made his home and his final resting place on February 4, 2020 surrounded by his family and friends.

Sam's favorite past times were traveling with his wife, fishing with his sons, Sunday Family BBQs, rooting for the San Francisco Giants, and attending Giants Spring Training in Scottsdale, Arizona. He would spend many summers driving the United States, making new memories with his wife and grandchildren, and visiting family and friends along the way. He also would attend reunions, such as Hug Fest and Charlie Company Reunions, where he would reunite with long lost friends and create new lifelong friends.

Samuel leaves here to cherish his memory his Wife Kathie A. Bailey, his two sons Ralph E. Bailey (Rosealyn), Kristoffer M. Bailey (Sandra), Siblings, Sandara (Jim Hansen), one brother, Kenneth Hyman (Sara), Cathy (Byron Jobe), Grandchildren Alyssa D. Bailey, Karyssa M. Bailey, Samuel K. Bailey, Isabel (Danny Sou), Mia K. Bailey, Great Granddaughter Irie Elaine, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Minnie Louise Hyman and Elmer Hyman.

He served the Army well, but his life's passion was his family.
