Robert “Bob”
Allen Casterson
October 12, 1946 – September 26, 2024
Robert "Bob" Allen Casterson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away
peacefully on September 26, 2024, at the age of 77 at his hme in Hanford, California. He was
surrounded by his loving wife Paula, daughters Marci and Faith, and his sister Cheryl.
Born on October 12, 1946, in Livermore, California, to Robert and Shirley Casterson, Robert
was raised in Pleasanton, California. He graduated from Amador Valley High School in June
1964. He continued his education at Modesto Junior College, earning his Associate of Science
degree in June 1967. In July 1970, he graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor
of science degree in Farm Management.
On October 16, 1971, Robert married the love of his life, Paula. Together, they shared over 52
years of marriage, raising two daughters, Marci and Faith, and later welcoming granddaughters
Claryssa Barone and Brooke Faria into their family.
Robert worked in a variety of roles over the course of his career, including serving as a purchasing agent at National Raisin Company and Westlake Farms, as an assessor with the Kings County Assessor's Office, and lastly in customer service at JC Penney. He spent countless hours "job searching" in between jobs. He could tell you exactly how many and how many contacts he made. He was known for his dedication to his work, his kindness, and his warm personality. He was referred to as a warrior, not only for Christ, but for always overcoming every challenge he faced. He had beat polio, several surgeries as a child, meningitis, and a shunt placement in his head. No matter how hard something was, and at times he felt like giving up, he remained steadfast in his faith and always persevered.
A Passion for Service
One of Robert's greatest joys was serving his community. In addition to his many volunteer roles,
he was particularly proud of his work with the Kings County Commission on Aging, an
organization established in 1970 by Simon Lakritz. The Commission aimed to have those able to
help serve those in need, and Robert joined the Retired Senior Volunteer Program to do just that.
Working out of the historic Mary Brock Hall, Robert volunteered in every office, always ready to
assist staff or take on new responsibilities. He became a beloved presence in the hallways, his
warm smile and positive attitude touching everyone he encountered. Whether answering phones
or providing vital resources to those in need, Robert was known as a "go-to" person. His cheerful
declaration, "I will be right there," became well-known, as Robert was always willing to lend a hand.
His dedication made a significant impact. Robert was recognized as an invaluable asset to the
program, often handling a heavy workload and ensuring everything was done with care and
efficiency. Those who called the office were always glad to speak with Robert, knowing he had a
wealth of knowledge about the resources available through the Commission. He also exemplified
how to stay active, healthy, and engaged in later years, encouraging others to do the same. Many
shared that without Robert's tireless work, much of the program's operations would have been
more difficult to maintain.
Personal Life and Legacy
Beyond his professional life, Robert was deeply involved in his community in other capacities.
He served as a 4H leader, Adventure Guide Leader with the Corcoran YMCA, and as a driver for
the American Cancer Society. Robert was a dedicated member of Hanford Presbyterian Church,
where he volunteered as an Elder, Deacon, and Usher. He was a true man of God and remained a
good and faithful servant all the way to the end of his life. He also volunteered with Adventist
Health Hospital, where alongside his wife Paula, they were a warm welcome and friendly smile
to those visiting as well as the employees of the hospital. His love for community and service
was always evident in the way he lived his life.
Diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in April of 2022, Robert remained courageous and strong
throughout his battle, with the support of his family, friends, and caregivers. He will be
remembered for his infectious laugh, his ability to tell jokes like no other, and the deep love he
had for those around him. Though he spoke few words, he was known for writing detailed and
heartfelt letters to express his thoughts.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Paula Casterson; daughters, Marci Barone and Faith Faria; sons-in-law, Wes Barone and Larry Faria; granddaughters, Claryssa Barone and Brooke Faria; sister Cheryl Danielson; and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
He was predeceased
by his parents, Robert Casterson and Shirley Casterson-Butler.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Adventist Health Hospice for their
compassionate care and to Robert's devoted caregivers, Diane Corona and Berlyn Guzman, who
were by his side throughout his journey. The family considers them to be angels and now a part
of their extended family.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held at Hanford Presbyterian Church, 415 N. Redington St. Hanford, Ca , On Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
