Obituary

Melinda Lusterio Powell passed away peacefully last Wednesday following a brave, two-month battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her family. Just a year ago, she was as vibrant and full of life as ever, making her sudden departure an agonizing loss for all who were blessed to know her.

Melinda brought warmth, joy, and an unforgettable sense of humor wherever she went. The cornerstone of her family, she was renowned for having the best Filipino cooking on the planet—a craft that reflected the heart, care, and generosity she poured into her loved ones. No visit was ever complete without her signature, caring greeting: "Hello Anak, how are you? Are you hungry?" Her presence offered effortless comfort, and the deep, enduring love she shared with her husband was a true masterclass in devotion and soulmates.

She is survived by her devoted husband and soulmate, Joe Powell; her loving son, Hanz Lusterio Powell; her cherished daughter-in-law, Denise Brousseau Powell; her beloved sister-in-law, Nina Zavala; and the lights of her life, her grandchildren, Sophia and Jack Powell, who will forever carry the love and lessons of the best Lola in the world.

Melinda’s family will hold her in their hearts for the rest of their days, knowing that such profound grief is simply the ultimate reflection of profound love. While her presence will be missed in every moment, trip, and milestone, her story does not end here. Her family takes comfort in the promise of the day they will reunite with her at that great celebration above, wrapped in the biggest embrace imaginable.

Until we meet again, sweet Mama.
