Maria Casillas 1925-2017
Maria Casillas passed away at 92 in Sugarland, Texas on December 19, 2017.
Maria is survived by her daughter, Mona Kennedy (Steve) of Sugarland, Texas, her grandchildren Brooke (Benjamin), Weston, Nicole, a great-grandchild, her youngest sister Carmen Ochoa (William) of Hanford, and her brother Macario of Lancaster CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maria was born in Ysleta, Texas on November 25, 1925 to Macario and Maria de Jesus Casillas. She helped raise her nine younger siblings until she married and moved to Southern California. She gave birth to her daughter Mona and eventually divorced. She lived in Gardena CA for decades and worked as a waitress for a card gaming casino raising her daughter as a single mom. Later she moved to Sugarland Texas to live with her daughter's family. She loved mail order shopping. Maria was always happy and smiling even when faced with tough times.
A belated and short urn internment blessing is scheduled for Friday, February 22, 2019 at Calvary Cemetery after the burial of her younger sister, Ruth Casillas Orosco. A reception follows at the Hanford Fraternal Hall for friends and family. Condolences can be sent to the family c/o Yost & Web Funeral Care.
