Lance "Sonny" Smith, age 84 of Hanford, California, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025. Lance was born in Tyler, Texas on March 15, 1941, to Isaiah and Allie Smith. He was one of 17 children. Ten Boys and seven girls. Lance was a beloved family member, friend, known for his kindness, generosity and unwavering spirit.
Lance had one daughter, Ida Lanett Smith, born to Lois Porter on May 26, 1961. He was a dedicated father and foster parent. In September 1985 Lance married the love of his life, Susie Ann Bowens. This union lasted 40 years, until November 10, 2025.
Lance was passionate about many things, the first was farming he loved to plant and watch with great expectation. The second, he loved fishing. Fishing was like an adventure he didn't want to end. And third, he knew a great deal when he saw one, and very seldom passed one up. Finally, he was a man of his word, he believed standing on his own two feet. Lance took great pride in being able to provide for his family. For 30 years he worked hard as a construction worker. He never shied away from his responsibilities.
Lance was preceded in death by his daughter Ida Lanette Gobert, his wife Susie, his parents Isaiah and Allie Smith. His brothers Superintendent, Oratio Smith, Deacon Lee Smith, David Smith, Decon Prince Smith, Isaiah Smith Jr., Pastor Clussie Smith, Johnny Smith and Gleen Smith. His sisters Alice Jean Richardson, Willie Lou Jean Pruitt, Lee Helen Smith.
Lance is survived by his youngest brother Elder Rudy Smith and his wife Bonnie, of Clovis, California. His Sisters Marjorie Chamber of Sacramento, California. Mother Myrtle Willis of Sacramento, California. His sister in-laws Catherine Smith, of Hanford, California, Clest host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lance Sonny Smith shall be missed by all who knew him. For to know him was to love him.
