James "Jim"
Mackey
March 17, 1943 – March 12, 2023
James "Jim" Mackey, 79, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on March 12, 2023, following several months of multiple health issues. His passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of so many.
Jim was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on March 17 th , 1943, to Walter and Josephine "Jody" Mackey; a date that held a special delight for his proudly Irish mother. He was their only child.
Thanks to Walter's position as an executive in the Insurance industry, the family moved several times during Jim's childhood. Spending time in Massachusetts, Buffalo, New York, Chicago, Washington, and ultimately settling for their longest stint in Marin County, California. After graduating high school Jim worked several jobs in multiple fields until being hired as an independent claims adjuster with a firm in Fresno. This experience allowed him to eventually begin working for nationally known insurance companies like Hartford and United Pacific-Reliance.
It was while working as an independent adjuster in Fresno, that Jim met Kathleen "Kathy" Serpa in 1969. After a brief engagement the two would be married on Valentine's Day, 1970. In 1975 Jim and Kathy returned to Hanford to begin life as independent insurance agents by joining Adam Serpa Insurance. Jim and Kathy would eventually purchase Adam Serpa Insurance and begin the rapid expansion into what is today Mackey and Mackey Insurance.
Jim and Kathy have two sons, Adam and Jason, and it was a constant source of pride for Jim that both of his sons came into the family business.
Despite tirelessly working to grow the family business Jim enjoyed serving his community in a wide variety of roles. He was a member of several non-profit boards and was always interested in helping the organizations grow and improve. He volunteered to help plan and run countless fundraisers and golf tournaments over the years.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Josephine Mackey.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy Mackey, his two sons, their spouses, six grandchildren, and foster daughter.
Adam and Tiffany Mackey, and their children Moira, Colin, and Noreen
Jason and Aaryn Mackey, and their children Eleanor, Thomas, and Camilla
Jamie Grisso
