George R.
Vargas
July 17, 1948 – October 6, 2024
It's with heavy hearts and sadness that the family of George R Vargas announced his passing on October 6, 2024, in Fresno, California at the age of 76. George was born in Hanford, California to Gumecindo and Nicholasa Rivera Vargas. George was the youngest of seven siblings (Jess Vargas, Rudolph Vargas, John Paul Vargas, Robert Vargas, Gloria Perez, and Nancy Tamayo). He left school his senior year to enlist in the US Army; after graduating from boot camp and advanced training he was sent to Vietnam for a one-year tour, 1967-68. He was attached to the Blackhorse 11th Armor Calvary while in Vietnam (he was so proud of serving in the 11th CAV). George had met and fell in love with his future wife, Rosemary (Balver) prior to enlisting. Upon being discharged and returning home, they married a year later. They were married for 54 years. They had three children: Paul Vargas (Cristi), Nichole Rogers (David), and Andrew Vargas (Lynda). George loved his children and cherished his seven grandchildren: Keeley Rogers, Anthony Vargas, Megan Vargas, Sierra Rogers, Melinda Vargas, Noelle Vargas, and
Elena Vargas.
George was in construction by trade and retired from NAS Lemoore after 20 years in the Public Works Department. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends or brothers. After retiring, he also took up golfing. He enjoyed camping with his wife and family at the coast. But his "happy place" was the Tachi Palace. Besides his wife, children/spouses, and grandchildren, George leaves behind his two brothers
(Jess and Robert), brothers-in-law (Rudy Perez, Joe Balver, and Danny Balver) sister in laws (Marylou Vargas, Mary Vargas, Rachel Balver, and Virgie Balver). He also leaves many cousins, nieces/great nieces, nephews/great nephews. We, the immediate family are so grateful and appreciative of the support and prayers sent to us at this difficult time.
Umpa/Papa, you will be missed so much but we know you will no longer be in pain and hurting.
Our Lord almighty knew your body could no longer fight to stay with us. Until we meet again, you will be in our hearts, our memories, and our prayers, Rest in Peace.
