Donald Leroy
Burnett
April 10, 1956 – November 13, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Leroy Burnett, on November 13, 2022. Donnie was born in Hanford, California, April 10, 1956, to Leroy and Barbara (Trammell) Burnett.
After graduating from Hanford High in 1974, Donnie extended his education, training as a welder. He was part of the Pipefitters Union, which took him to multiple large-scale jobs throughout the west coast. Donnie also spent several years working for Pirelli Tire. In the late 90s, he worked as a Building Maintenance Vocational Instructor beginning at Ironwood State Prison, then Pleasant Valley State Prison, where he later retired from.
Throughout his life, Donnie enjoyed the outdoors, spending most of his free time hunting and fishing. He met his future wife Leana (Baze), in his early 20s. The adventures continued for the couple, welcoming their only child, DJ, in 1983. Donnie taught his son about the great outdoors (among many other life lessons), furthering their strong bond.
At home, Donnie rooted on his favorite football team, Dallas Cowboys. He also liked to shine up and organize his extensive Native American artifacts collection. Great pride was taken in the preservation of these treasures. Searching local grounds for arrowheads and other interesting finds was a favorite hobby for he and Leana, until her passing in 2014.
Donnie became a grandpa in 2004, which was a role he adored. He couldn't wait to get his granddaughter her first fishing pole. He spent one of his last birthdays deep sea fishing with his son and granddaughter. It was a fond memory for them all.
Donnie is survived by his son, DJ Burnett, of Hanford; granddaughter, Rylyn Burnett, of Hanford; sister, Kathy Richter, of Hanford; brother, Ryan Burnett, of Clovis; numerous relatives and many friends as well.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Leroy Burnett, as well as the love of his life, Leana.
He is already greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. We would love to hear your warm memories and stories about Donnie.
