Cynthia Diane
Bean
March 18, 1965 – December 3, 2021
Cynthia Diane Bean (Wieske) was born March 18, 1965 in the city of Rockledge, Florida to Thomas P. and Elizabeth R Wieske. Cindy married Kevin P. Bean in June, 1985 at St. Martin's Church, San Jose, CA. Together they had one son, Alan Peter Bean, who resides in Helena, Montana.
In addition to her husband and son, Cindy is survived by her parents, one brother, Thomas P. Wieske Jr., and two sisters, Therese K. Wieske and Mary Anne Bowles (William, aka "Tink").
Cindy attended a progression of different schools as she advanced up the education ladder. She attended Kindergarten in Rockledge, FL, elementary school in Columbus, Ohio, middle schools in Westerville, Ohio, and San Jose, CA, graduated from Blackford High School, in San Jose, CA Class of 1983. She graduated from San Jose State University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. She was the only female in her graduating Meteorology class.
In 1988, Cindy accepted a Meteorologist position with the National Weather Service (NWS), and was the first female Meteorologist at every NWS office where she was later assigned, including Charlote, NC, Toledo, OH, Billings, MT and Hanford, CA. She was the first female Incident Meteorologist at NWS Hanford, and was frequently dispatched to forest fire camps for on-site weather forecasting. She enjoyed and excelled at her work, which included teaching weather related classes to Fire Department and Forestry personnel about the effects of weather on forest fires and the effects of forest fires on the weather. She received many accolades and commendations from the agencies that she served. One local newspaper article even referred to her as a "Local, History Making Female Meteorologist." Cindy was with the weather service for 33 years, and her last position at NWS Hanford was as Lead Forecaster.
Cindy had a love of music and while in High School, played viola with the San Jose Symphony's Youth Orchestra. In addition, she sang, played viola and was active with Church choirs at St. Martin's Church, San Jose, CA and St. Bridget's Church in Hanford, CA.
Ever the proponent of improving her own, as well as helping others improve their communication skills, she was very active in leadership roles with Toastmasters International, actively founding and organizing multiple Clubs, as well as maintaining her own, simultaneous membership in as many as five different clubs.
Anyone who knew Cindy was well aware of her quiet, self-reliant determination, her endurance, her strong leadership and analytical skills, her "Can-Do" attitude, and the warm brightness of her smile. Sadly, in 2005, Cindy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and these personal traits enabled her to endure the continuing treatments and manage the on-going disease.
Her tenacity was again challenged in late 2019 when she was diagnosed with an insidious, very aggressive metastatic cancer. Cindy determinedly endured the surgery, radiation and chemotherapy and, while never in remission, the cancers became stable. But alas, in late 2021, the cancer again became aggressive. Additional surgery and radiation treatments could no longer cure or control the cancer's progression, and Cindy entered hospice in at home in mid-September. She breathed her last on 12/03/2021 at 11:47 am.
She has left a gaping hole in the hearts of all who knew her.
