Armando
Varela
November 18, 1941 – February 3, 2024
Armando Varela, from Armona, CA, died peacefully in his home and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Armando was born and raised in Texas and attended school in the city of Uvalde, TX. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1964 the age of 22 and served as a Medic Specialist. After service he was married and moved from Kings County to Fresno County where he raised his three children in Selma, CA. Armando was a dedicated and hard-working father. He worked full-time his entire life and provided a stable home for his family. Armando enjoyed exercising, photography, music, and serving his church. During the 1980's he could be spotted regularly jogging through the city of Selma and embarrassing his teenage kids with his choice of jogging attire; short 70's style gym shorts and long white knee-high socks with stripes at the top. He exercised regularly whether jogging or working in the yard. It was this lifestyle which enabled him to enjoy a good quality of life and live independently until his passing. He was the family photographer and took so many pictures of family, friends, and nature; however, his biggest love was singing and playing guitar. He was a self-taught guitar player and could be counted on to sing and play guitar for family gatherings and especially his church. Above all Armando was a beloved member of the Seventh Day
Adventist Church (SDA). The church was the center of his life, and he remained a dedicated member of the SDA from the time he served in the military until the time of his death.
Armando was the fourth eldest child of (12) siblings, preceded in death by his father Candelario, Mother, Eloiza, siblings, Pablo (Paul), Rosario (Rosa), Eloiza, Jose (Joe), and Cosme. He is survived by Tina (stepdaughter), Angela (daughter), Armando Jr. (son), Angelina (daughter-in-law); siblings, Angela, Virginia, Cecilia, Gonzalo, Alfred (Fred), Rosendo (Chendo), and Magdalena (Nena); grandchildren (10)
and great grandchildren (3). Although his family is saddened deeply by his passing, we are also comforted in knowing that he is resting in the arms of Jesus as his faith in God and eternal life in heaven was larger than the universe.
Services to be held at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 700 N. Harris St. Hanford, CA on Thursday, February 15 @ 8:00 a.m. Graveside services to follow at Grangeville Cemetery in Armona, CA.
